Frequently Asked Question

Planning an event at Mansion House often raises a few practical questions. Here’s what our team gets asked most, covering hire times, catering, accessibility and more. If you can’t find what you need below, get in touch and we’ll help directly.

If you’re already speaking with a member of the Mansion House Events team, arrange a suitable time and date with them directly. For a new enquiry, contact us at mhvenue@cityoflondon.gov.uk. We’ll do our best to accommodate the dates you’re looking for, though this isn’t always possible due to other events taking place.

Mansion House is only available for corporate and commercial hire. We’re unable to host personal events such as weddings, engagements or birthday parties.

We have three hire times available: day hire 08:00–16:00, evening hire 17:00–22:30, or full day hire 08:00–22:30. Earlier access for set-up is available and should be discussed with your Events Manager. Unfortunately, we don’t offer hourly rates for any of our spaces. Please get in touch with the Mansion House Events Team for costs associated with these times.

We’re not able to welcome outside caterers into Mansion House. Our in-house caterer, Social Pantry, will work with you to make your requirements a success. Contact the Mansion House Events Team at mhvenue@cityoflondon.gov.uk and we’ll introduce you to the catering team.

Mansion House offers a basic PA of 4 microphones, suitable for speeches only, along with a sound technician, included in the venue hire cost. Anything additional, such as screens or further PA and AV equipment, will need to be brought into the venue. Our events team can recommend suppliers based on your requirements.

Your event manager can provide you with Mansion House’s recommended supplier list. You’re also welcome to bring in your own trusted suppliers, but they must provide Mansion House with a venue-specific RAMS document, a public liability insurance certificate, and staff names before being allowed on site.

There’s no parking outside Mansion House, but guests can be dropped off on Walbrook, outside the main entrance. Let your event manager know if a guest requires a disabled parking space. See our map for the nearest tube and train stations.

Location

Yes, Mansion House provides a cloakroom with cloakroom attendants. We don’t have changing room facilities on site.

Let your event manager know if you’ve invited a guest with Met Police protection or a member of the Royal Family. These are the two categories of guest where Mansion House needs to review security levels within the house. Any additional security costs arising from these guests are covered by the client; your event manager can give you more details.

Yes, there are several great venues in the City: the Barbican, London Museum, Guildhall and Tower Bridge.

Arriving at Mansion House and Walbrook Entrance

The main entrance to Mansion House is via the Walbrook Entrance on Walbrook which has a few steps. There is a Step-free Entrance to the left of the Walbrook Entrance which can be opened when required. If any Blue Badge holders wish to park at the venue, then please contact your event planner who will confirm what information is required for parking to be granted.

Mansion House Environment

Mansion House is a historic building which has been renovated and adapted over the centuries. Our floors are firm and level and most are carpeted. The staircases have a handrail on one side only. The venue is well-lit with adaptable lighting in some rooms. Please see below for further details on the lighting on the First and Second Floors.

Mansion House does not currently have a Changing Places toilet. The closest Changing Places toilet is located at The Barbican or Lloyds Bank on Old Broad Street. You can also check the locations via this website: https://www.changing-places.org/find

In the case of fire/emergency evacuation a member of Mansion House staff with assist you in getting to the Refuge Area and leaving the building.

Walbrook Hall

In this area there is a cloakroom, lift, security checks and toilets (Male/Female/Accessible & Baby Changing). Please follow signage to the different areas.

As you enter, the Cloakroom, Male and Female toilets are on the left of the Entrance. The Cloakroom will be manned during an event. The Male toilets have both urinals and individual cubicles, communal sinks, hand-dryers, soap, mirrors and bins. The Female toilets have individual cubicles, communal sinks, soap, mirrors and bins. The hand-dryers in both toilets are automated and some people may find the noise quite loud.

The Accessible & Baby Changing toilet are in the far-left corner. This toilet contains a sink, soap, hand-dryer, mirror and bin. Accessible & Baby Changing toilet dimensions: W = 101cm L = 227cm

Security and the lift are to the right of the Entrance. You will be required to go through airport style security to access the event spaces on the First and Second Floor. The lift goes to all event spaces on the First and Second Floors. There is a panel indicating each floor however we do not have any braille signage. Please speak with a member of staff who will be able to help.

Lift dimensions: W = 83cm L = 185cm

First Floor

This area contains four of the Mansion House event spaces –The Salon, The Long Parlour, The Drawing Rooms and The Egyptian Hall – which can be reached either via the stairs or lift. There are digital screens and signs directing guests where to go, with staff also on hand to help.

Please note, there are no toilets on the First Floor so all guests will need to return to the Ground Floor to access the Male/Female/Accessible & Baby Changing toilets. If you require ramped staging, please speak with your event planner or event production company about this so it can be incorporated into the floorplan. All the event spaces are carpeted. All rooms on the First Floor have dimmable lighting with natural daylight via the windows. Please note that some of the décor on the First Floor is quite bright and patterned.

For those with impaired hearing, The Egyptian Hall is fitted with a loop system and any guests requiring this should set their hearing aids to the “T” setting.

Second Floor

The Old Ballroom is located on the Second Floor, which can be reached either via the stairs or lift. There is no digital signage on this floor so if you require any please speak with your event planner or event production company.

This room is carpeted, with lots of natural light and regular lighting (on/off only). If you require ramped staging, please speak with your event planner or event production company so this can be incorporated into the floorplan.

For those with impaired hearing, The Old Ballroom is fitted with a loop system and any guests requiring this should set their hearing aids to the “T” setting.

There are two guest toilets on this floor, however please note these are not accessible. They contain a sink, soap, mirror and bin.

Quiet Room/prayer Room

If you require a quiet, prayer or sensory room during your event, please speak with your Mansion House event planner who will be able to advise on a relevant space.

Assistance Dogs/animals

You are very welcome to bring along your assistance dog. We recognise that without assistance dogs the visitors they support would not be able to attend. Please show Guildhall staff your ID book from Assistance Dogs International (ADI), Assistance Dogs UK (ADUK) or the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF) on arrival, and if possible, ensure that your dog is wearing an appropriate tabard or harness. Food and water bowls can be made available on request. We do not currently have designated spending areas on site.
